Spin & Knit A Mitten
Hand Spinning and
Hand Knitting By The Ocean
Rockport, Massachusetts

Did you know...
sailors were known in the 1600 and 1700's
for their drop spindle spinning?
How appropriate that we are revamping
the Cape Ann Countrywool Retreats
this year, and the first one will be
all about hand spinning!

Enjoy learning or refreshing your spinning skills
at this relaxed 3 day retreat,
where comaraderie underscores
the technique teaching.  Find out
why spinners have slower heart rates
and enjoy tremendous satisfaction
making their own yarns.

Come and unwind by the Atlantic Ocean as you spend 3 days
spinning with others of like mind.
Spin to the sound of the thundering surf
where high tide is 50 feet from our front door.
In October, the beach is quiet except for the gulls,
and long walks will calm your soul and prepare you for the winter.

Our 32 Long Beach bungalow will host our gathering in a comfortable
and spacious setting, with plenty of free parking.
A fully stocked kitchen will allow participants to nibble their way
through lunch or dinner if they choose,
allowing them to work though mealtimes.
Friday and Saturday evening will host an open spin until 9 pm,
and local spinners not attending the workshop
are encouraged to come and spin with us.
This retreat will walk spinners through planning and spinning yarn for mittens using their own fiber plus dyed Merino wool and angora from the Countrywool Bunnies, both of which are provided. An original Countrywool mitten pattern will also be included in a take-home notebook, which will feature techniques revisited during the weekend. On Sunday,  the group will pick up a LONG circular needle and learn Magic Loop knitting, which allows mittens to be made without using double pointed needles.
