Greetings from a green and fruitful corner of New York! My vegetable garden is finally in and the long process of keeping weeds at bay and watering between rainfalls finds me there in the evenings. With the 4th of July just around the corner, summer heat will soon be the order of the day.

But, summertime in Columbia County brings surprisingly cool evenings. Do you own a lightweight shawl to throw over your shoulders as you transition from an 80* day to a 55* evening while sipping a tall cool one with friends and family? It is a fabulous item to make and use daily this time of year. There is a class scheduled to make one later this month during our hopefully-to-be-annual SUMMER GARDEN PARTY KNIT IN.

If you are a hand spinner or a felter and have a hankering to do some fleece and fiber dyeing, there is a class scheduled just for you at at Columbia Greene Community College. Check it out!

Next month Countrywool begins to branch out into summer crafts and will hold its first ever SOAP MAKING class. Many of you have been interested in this topic and in the handmade soap found here, so let's do it! Class is limited to 4 and will be held in my kitchen. There are dogs in my house and they will be put away during class, but if you have any allergies, consider if you can easily handle the environment.

Summer also brings out my love of working with fabric, and there exists a possibility to hold a quilting class for real beginners. Sound interesting? Drop me a note.

Knitting on Sundays has been been put on hold until September as everyone is doing fun things outside.
